The island of Santa Barbra, known today as Barber Isle was the smallest island in the California Channel Islands archipelago measuring in little over one square mile. Discovered in 1542 by spanish explorers, its named after Saint Barbra of Greece, the catholic patron of armorers, miners, prisons and artillerymen, an ironic set of characteristics when what its been used for in the past 150 years has to do with all manner of prisoners and warfare.

During a stent in the 1940s the island housed a small covert military tracking station and barracks intended to be a early warning tool for attacking Japanese bombers, over the years up until the great war it was decommissioned and reinstated multiple times, and represents the most western arm of the "trifecta" a colloquial term for the three part compound made up of the "last paradise" lessening post on Santa Rosa and the air base on St. Nicolas Isle (Nicksland). The island was abandoned in early 2078 after the last of the soldiers on post died of radiation sickness.

Recolonized in 2091 by the Cuatro Dedos Cartel or the Four Fingers, the island became the central point for slave ships and pirates looting the islands and boneyard coast. Ultimately being a mere stepping stone from island to island. In 2121 a battle between the Four Fingers and the Lost Urchins against the Boneyard Fisher Fleet around the island resulted in 37 deaths and 4 sunken ships with the majority of the causalities on the Boneyard militias side of the conflict. Leading to the signing of the "salvage concordant" which seceded all islands on the coast to the cartels and created a shaky alliance between the cartels and the boneyard societies.

Starting in 2263 the Four Fingers began allowing NCR ships to use the island on there way south to baja as a safe harbor, this along with actions taken by the Avalon society to appease the NCR made the Urchins break ties with the other cartels and declare war on all three powers. Today the island is regularly captured and retaken by the privateers in collaboration with the californians and the Urchins who see it as encroachment into their rightful sovereignty, frequently shelled by Inspiration Point and passing ships.
