Summary[]

Globe Town is a community based around a portion of old Odessa ranging from the Odessa College campus in the south, to Dos Amigos and the Ector County Coliseum in the north. The parallel roads of Golder Avenue and Andrews Highway mark its rough east-west boundaries.

History[]

Pre-War[]

The history of Globe Town is largely the history of Odessa, and so only its major landmarks are noted here

The Ector County Coliseum, also known as The Jack-Shack was a multi-purpose arena built in 1954, which hosted rodeos, indoor football (a variation on the more typical arena football with altered ruled to fit the smaller space), ice hockey, soccer matches, and other events.

The Globe of the Great Southwest, a to-scale replica of William Shakespeare's original Globe Theatre, began construction in 1958 outside of Odessa College, and would slowly march towards completion as money became available throughout fundraising. Its first theatrical season began in the fall of 1968. The theater would would be used to host shows by students of the local high schools and colleges for the duration of the Pre-War period, with activity tapering off as the economy declined and civil unrest spread across the nation.

Dos Amigos was originally a one room bar built in 1980, eventually expanding by purchasing an adjacent livery stable. A major renovation and expansion would take place during the last great oil boom of the 2010s. At its nadir, it was a multi-venue bar that hosted concerts and other events.

Post-War[]

The theater and coliseum survived the war with superficial damage and was largely unmolested by looters or scavengers, as it had little in the way of portable goods or valuables. Many of the business and homes in the area were not spared rough treatment by survivors desperate for supplies.

Economy[]

The people of Globe Town primarily engage in scavenging, and their farming and animal husbandry are subsistence level at best. The real driving force of the economy here is entertainment. Along with distant Penwell, there is simply more ways to have a good time in Globe Town than anywhere else in the Midessa Compact.

Notable Places[]

The Coliseum[]

The sturdy coliseum once hosted arena football and other sporting events. Though it was damaged in the aftermath of the Great War, its squat, concrete construction served it well. It mostly serves the same purpose now as it did before the war, though it also hosts the local market.

Dos Amigos[]

Dos Amigos

The cantina has weathered the apocalypse rather well.

This bar hosted rodeos and live music prior to the war. By some miraculous stroke of fate, the building survived the Great War and subsequent years of neglect and fierce weather. The residents of Globe Town have restored the building, not a difficult task since it was never the most elaborate structure, and returned it to its original purpose. It is one of the most popular destinations in the ruins of Odessa and draws acts from across the wastes, including The Arrangement.

Globe Theater[]

Originally known as The Globe of the Great Southwest, it is a replica of Shakespeare's renown theater. It is this landmark that has given the community its name. Though damaged in the course of the Great War, the Rocker Movement has taken great pains to repair and restore the building.

Globe

The theater has been painstakingly restored.

Government[]

Globe Town is subject to the bylaws of the Midessa Compact.

Layout[]

The nearest communities are Mesa about 5 miles to the east, Penwell 17 miles to the southwest, and Notrees 23 miles to the northwest. The theater is on the southern edge of the community and Dos Amigos is on the northern edge, nearly 2 miles away. The coliseum is east of the other major locations in town, to the southeast of Dos Amigos. The residents occupy clusters of ruined buildings between these three locales, these groupings have walls surrounding them.
