A small unassuming resident of the wastes of Texas and northern Mexico, the Scrub Turtle has changed little from it's pre-war ancestors. Still surviving in the same environment, the Scrub Turtle is most known for the lethality of it's bite, due to the bacteria it carries.

Description[]

The Scrub Turtle is a small greenish-brown turtle native to Texas and parts of Mexico. It can grow to fourteen inches tall and up to thirty-five pounds. The creature lifespan is around one-hundred and twelve years, though there is talk of them surviving longer when kept as pets. The radiation from the War has thickened their shells as well as adding ridges. The creatures reproduce via eggs, with females able to lay a clutch on average of four eggs every two years, though larger ones have been reported. Scrub Turtles feed on vegetation, and travel during sun-rise and -set to avoid the heat of day.

Offensive Capabilities[]

The Scrub Turtle is rarely aggressive, but when it does feel the need to fight, it relies completely on it's powerful bite, which can latch onto and remove large chunks of flesh. While powerful on their own, these bites also transfer Toryitlus Maxey bacteria, causing severe infections and death in many cases.

Defensive Capabilities[]

The Scrub Turtle relies on it's small size and relative camouflage to avoid detection from predators. If it is spotted, it will retreat within it's shell which is durable enough to dissuade casual feedings.

Habitat[]

Scrub Turtles live in the grass and scrub lands that they get their name from, eating grass, cactus and most available plant matter, which they also derive water from. Unlike their cousins they do not burrow, instead making small nests under the cover of plants or debris.
